Sacred Heart of Jesus School

The involvement of parents and parishioners over the years has significantly contributed to the strength of Sacred Heart. Active parental involvement is encouraged and needed. Because parents are viewed as the primary educators of their children, we offer numerous opportunities to get involved with the school, meet fellow parishioners, take part in your child’s education and just have fun. Listed below are some of the current opportunities.

Education Commission

Serves as a seven-member, advisory body to the pastor, principal, and DRE with regard to policies governing catechesis and parish educational programs, including the school. Three year terms of office begin annually in June and terms are staggered to provide for continuity.

Fundraising

Fundraising at Sacred Heart School is conducted on a strictly voluntary basis. Although incentives are offered to individual students and to classes who perform well during fund drives, no family should feel undue financial hardship as a result of school fundraising.

Annual fundraising events are primarily organized through the PTS (Parents and Teachers for Students). This may include a fall magazine drive, Spring Walk-a-thon, as well as numerous ongoing fundraisers conducted throughout the year. These fundraisers include the Scrip Program, Box Tops for Education, and Campbell’s Labels for Education. Many school improvements have been financed as a result of these fundraising efforts, including technology, materials for the science lab, playground equipment, field trip transportation, teacher continuing education, and 6th and 8th grade retreats.

Library

Parents volunteer to assist the librarian in the cataloging and circulation of books, maintaining the library, and assisting students during library periods. A meeting to discuss volunteer opportunities is held by the school librarian shortly after the school year begins.

Teacher Assistance

Parents volunteer to help teachers with special projects and in an ongoing way as “conferencers” for our young writers. Our reading specialist provides the training and, once trained, parents arrange with the writing teacher to sit down to confer with students as they share their writing. Other service opportunities arise throughout the year and are well-communicated by the teachers.

Other Opportunities

Numerous other opportunities to help exist. If you have a special interest, please speak up and volunteer!
